Psalm 90:12 (NIV)-Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Just like that, another school year is gone and summer is here. Now, I hope time will slow down because I love my routine of days at the pool, riding my bike around town, and being outside with my family. I already have lots of things I want to do and projects that need to be done. I know it will go by in a flash. With the busyness of life and the way our days fly by, I know I have to make time to focus on what really matters, filling up on God’s love every morning (Psalm 90:14) and sharing it with others. Sharing songs last summer was one small way for me to do that.
This summer I am going to add to that and start a Songs of Summer blog. I keep thinking, No I really can’t do that, but then I’m nudged again. Today’s nudge came from Psalm 90:17,” Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us. Establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Is this the work He has established for me this summer? Did God put the idea in my heart to help me slow down? Is this my path to gain the heart of wisdom Moses wrote about in Psalm 90? Is our work established with the nudges we get? I feel the nudges, but I’d rather know for sure.
Today, my last day of school, is when I planned to start, but now I’m hesitating and second-guessing. Maybe I can start next week, or next summer. While finishing up the last of the work in my classroom today, I listened to a podcast from Lysa TerKeurst. Wouldn’t you know it, she said to bring your little bit of willingness to do the thing you feel God is calling you to do, and He will do the rest.
So here goes. Here I am with my tiny bit of willingness, and I am looking forward to seeing what God does with it. I pray it encourages some of you to cherish your summer days, follow the nudges you are getting in your own life, and be reminded,
“When it's all said and done
No one remembers
How far we have run
The only thing that matters
Is how we have loved”
